Ferret uses

In recent times ferrets are used to carry cables through long conduits. They have been used in this way at the Jet Propulsion Laboratory of NASA and the organizers of events in London. The cable television and sound were installed by ferrets in the wedding of Charles and Diana Spencer, and for the Millennium concert in Greenwich Park.

Ferrets are also much used, along with other animals in experiments often controversial for medical and biological research.

Also they are frequently used in hunting go down holes where dogs can not reach, putting a metal ring in the throat ensures they can not kill or eat the prey.
