International Ferret laws

Laws Chile
There is a law governed by the SAG and livestock farm service which runs and regulates the possession and breeding of exotic animals in Chile.

Australia
It is illegal to own ferrets as pets in Queensland and the Northern Territory, Victoria and Canberra you will need a license.

New Zealand
It is illegal to sell, distribute or breed ferrets in New Zealand since 2002.

United States
California and Hawaii have laws that restrict the ownership of ferrets. In California, some residents made a request to have ownership of Laws Chileferrets made legal in the state, but the demand was rejected by a government committee in mid-2005. The remaining states have no restrictions on the breeding, possession and sale of ferrets.

Ferrets are also restricted in some cities like New York, Washington DC, Beaumont Texas and Bloomington Minnesota. Special permission is required in some areas like New Jersey and Rhode Island.

The ferrets were legalized in Dallas Texas until August 2005.

European Union

There are no restrictions in most countries. In Portugal, Spain and France the use of ferrets for hunting is prohibited and deemed harmful to the environment, but ownership as a pet is perfectly legal, except in the Luso country see www.furoes.org where attempts are being made for the legalization of the animal as a pet.
